If you’re one of the nearly 20,000 or so residents who ever travel to South Texas College’s Pecan Campus, you know how bad parking and traffic can get between the hours of, say, 5 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.
Whether one of the local school districts has for decided to park a fleet of school buses on 29th Street or if lunch hour has just begun — or students are rushing for a midweek bottle of booze — STC’s parking lots have only gotten worse as its enrollment climbs with no end in sight.
But the school’s board of trustees Monday approved a new schematic design by Perez Consulting Engineers to hopefully massage the traffic jams away from busy areas.
According to a board agenda packet document, the approved design will:
-Provide two way traffic from main traffic signal on the west side of the Ann Richards Administration Building to the east side of the library
-”Improve traffic circulation by creating a continuous two way loop road for south side Pecan Campus”
-Provide better vehicular access from main entrance at traffic signal between Ware Road and 31st Street
-”Create a drop off and pick up lane for (the new Jag) shuttle bus and other vehicles”
The estimated $250,000 to $300,000 project would also improve campus storm water drainage and landscape. There was no mention at the meeting or in the packet of an expected completion date for the officially named Pecan Campus Loop Road Phase II project would be completed.
You can view the full schematic maps here, here and here. And please leave a comment below if you think the construction updates and landscaping will improve the traffic jams around STC’s largest campus.
Seriouly instead of spending $$$$ in PARKING…… The higher-ups at STC should think about redesigning the BAT Program Courses for during the DAYLIGHT Time and not the NIGHT-Time…… This another EPIC FAILURE sponsered by STC.
Apparently you have never tried to park at STC Pecan Campus. This problem affects more students than the courses for the BAT.
